Project Uranium is a student-led research initiative by students of Bina Pani Vidya Mandir, Jharkhand, exploring uranium mining in their region and the questions it raises for people, health and the environment.

​

The project began with a simple conversation with Sir Steven Sparks, one of the world's leading volcanologists and a scientist who has spent his career helping us understand the forces shaping our planet. That conversation inspired the students to look beyond the classroom, ask difficult questions and begin their own investigation.

​​​​​From Curiosity to Research​

 

​The students will explore the science of uranium and its geological origins, understand how uranium is mined and processed, investigate its potential environmental and health impacts, and learn about the communities living alongside mining activities. ​But this project isn't only about understanding a problem.

​

It is about asking: Can science help us find better solutions?

​

Through research, conversations with experts, analysis of evidence and their own ideas, the students will explore how mining, health, environment and community well-being can be better understood and what a safer and more sustainable future could look like.
